Less than a week ago the Board of EVF believed that, with adequate protections in place, we could deliver the European Veteran Team Championships. Since that time, there has been a rapid escalation in infections and social isolation measures from many of our member countries. These have ranged from complete shut-downs, sporting event cancellations, entertainment closures and restrictions on numbers who may gather in one place. We have also seen an increasing number of fencing clubs that can no longer operate. With all this in mind, the Board has sadly made the decision that we must postpone the European Team Championships in May. This is not what anyone wanted but, in the interests of Veterans Fencing in Europe we think this is the only responsible decision to take. We are sorry if you have made travel and accommodation bookings and hope you can get refunds or deferrals. We also apologise to the organisers who have put in a huge effort to take up these Championships at short notice and who are now having to undo all the arrangements already made. At this stage we are exploring possibilities from July onwards but nothing is firm or clear yet. We will keep you all advised on new information as it becomes available. Please all stay well, look after your loved ones and don’t forget you can still keep doing footwork while in isolation!
